Welcome to Fully Fit 2026, GOLF’s new platform for providing you with real-golfer insights into what 2026 gear might be best suited for your game. To this end, we assembled six GOLF content creators of varying abilities and ran them through the gauntlet of six full-bag fittings (driver to putter!) at six major club manufacturers in Phoenix and Carlsbad, Calif. Our hope: that you might see shades of your own game in one of our panelists’ and take some learnings and inspiration from their fitting experiences.

I’ve always been pretty comfortable knowing my yardages and what I want to hit on the course. But recently, there was a small gap in the source author’s bag that I just couldn’t seem to close: 175 to 185 yards. Generally, I’m not someone who constantly tinkers with the clubs in the source author’s bag. I usually find something that works and stick with it. However, this gap was becoming an issue. My longest iron was too short for some forced carries, while the next club in the source author’s bag was a fairway wood that not only flew too far, but also didn’t hold greens particularly well. While I always found a way to make it work, neither option left me feeling confident standing over the ball. So I went looking for a better solution.

During the Fully Fit process, the first club that really stood out to me was the Callaway Quantum Max hybrid. It was easy to launch, forgiving and produced good ball speed. The Callaway did everything I needed it to, but honestly it went about 10 yards too far. That’s not a bad thing! I’m splitting hairs a bit with the yardage I’m trying to hit. I love the Quantum hybrids and I considered finding a higher loft in the same head to bridge the gap, but it just so happened I had a fitting scheduled at PXG, and they had my answer: The PXG Lightning Hybrid.

In my fitting, we tested out different weighting combinations until we finally found a setup that consistently produced the flight and distance I was looking for. But I didn’t realize how significant the difference was until I hit it on the course. During my first round with the new hybrid in the bag, I remember having a 180-yard shot into a green. I was slightly nervous because I hadn’t yet learned how the club would perform when the shot actually mattered. But those nerves quickly dissipated when I made contact.

The first thing I noticed was how the ball seemed to explode off the face. More importantly, it launched on the trajectory I had seen during the fitting and carried exactly where I needed it to. It wasn’t a shot I had to manufacture. I made a normal swing, and the club did the rest. That shot ended up being exactly what I was looking for when I started the fitting. I didn’t need a hybrid that went as far as possible—I needed one that gave me a reliable option when I had 175 to 185 yards to the hole. The Callaway Quantum got me close, but the PXG Lightning gave me the consistency and confidence I was missing. Both were my two favorite hybrids of 2026.

Now, when I see 180 yards on the approach, I don’t have to think twice about what I’m hitting. Fully Fit 2026 continues to provide valuable insights from real golfers, helping players make informed decisions about their gear. The project assembled six GOLF content creators of varying abilities and ran them through the gauntlet of six full-bag fittings (driver to putter!) at six major club manufacturers in Phoenix and Carlsbad, Calif. The hope is that readers can see themselves in one of the panelists and gain learnings and inspiration from their fitting experiences.

Other panelists include Jake Morrow (0.6 handicap), Jack Hirsh (0.7), Wadeh Maroun (1.3), Johnny Wunder (2.5), and Sean Zak (6.9), each offering a unique perspective on the 2026 equipment landscape. The Fully Fit initiative underscores the importance of personalized club fitting. Even for seemingly standard distances like 180 yards, the difference between models and setups can be significant. Finding a hybrid that offers predictable flight and reliable distance is crucial for confidence and better scoring. It proves that even small gaps in a player's bag can be effectively addressed with the right equipment and professional fitting.
