Brandon Holz: The Road to Augusta National

Brandon Holz, a 38-year-old realtor from Indiana, recently clinched the title of U.S. Mid-Am champion at the Troon Country Club tournament. This victory not only secured his spot in the upcoming U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills but also possibly an invitation to the Masters in April. Although Holz has visited Augusta National before, the opportunity to play there is a dream for him.

In the past, Holz played professional golf on mini-tours for six years before returning to amateur status in 2024. He admitted to holding a pro card to play for money, but ultimately decided to focus on amateur competitions.

This week, on the Subpar podcast, Holz shares his thoughts on the upcoming game at Augusta alongside his father, with whom he attended the Masters as spectators for many years. Holz recalls how his father won lifetime badges for the Masters in 2004, making participation in the tournament even more special. They hope that walking the course will unveil the secrets behind the famous Augusta National.

Brandon is particularly interested in playing the 14th hole, where the green has a significant slope. "From a distance, it looks crazy, and I can't imagine what it will be like in reality," he says.

For Holz, who has dreamed of this opportunity all his life, participating in the Masters is a chance to open a new chapter in his golf career.
