Arpichaya Yubol opened the Maybank Championship on 29 October with a five-under 67, but family was the main subject of her official post-round interview. Playing the West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, the Thai professional has her father back as her caddie. Her mother has travelled to Malaysia as well.

Her father returns to the bag

Yubol described this week as special because she can share the round with her father and enjoy their time on the course. Asked when he last caddied for her, she recalled Mexico, without identifying an exact event or date. Assigning a more specific previous tournament would go beyond what she said.

Encouragement whatever the score

She also explained why she enjoys having both parents travel with her. Whether she is playing well or struggling, her mother's reassuring expression reminds her to keep going. It is a personal account of emotional support, not evidence that a family caddie necessarily lowers a player's score.

That distinction is part of the story. Behind a competitive first-round number is a golfer who values familiar company while making decisions under pressure.

A changed plan in the wind

Kuala Lumpur's heat felt familiar to Yubol, who compared the weather with conditions at home in Thailand. The wind during competition, however, differed from practice, and she said she adjusted her game plan slightly.

Her 67 was five strokes under par for the opening round alone. The LPGA tournament is scheduled from 29 October to 1 November 2026, and the score does not establish a final finish. All the comments come from the tournament's genuine ASAP Sports interview, not a conversation conducted by this publication.
