A birthday spent on the course
Canadian professional Anna Huang turned 18 on October 30, 2026, while competing in the second round of the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur. She carded a 68 (−4) on the West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club. Added to her opening 71 (−1), that gave her a 36-hole total of 139 (−5) and a share of 23rd place, according to the official LPGA leaderboard.
In her official post-round interview that day, Huang pointed to two improvements: more putts were falling, and closer approach shots were creating more birdie chances. Her birthday had put her in a good mood, too. Rather than describing a dramatic technical overhaul, she spoke about enjoying the round and letting the opportunities come.
A sponsor invitation and a new country
The LPGA entry list confirms that Huang joined Maybank on a sponsor invitation. Malaysia was a new destination for her, and so was the course. She was struck by the large grandstands and the scale of the occasion. Afternoon showers, she suggested, could offer welcome relief from the humidity; frequent practice in Florida has also made this type of weather less unfamiliar.
Huang may only just have turned 18, but the Ladies European Tour had already credited her with four career titles before this week. The emphasis of Friday’s interview, however, was not on her trophy count. It was on learning to navigate a professional career while still a teenager.
Selecting when to attack
Looking toward the weekend, Huang said she might take a more aggressive approach at the 14th or 16th if the tournament moves the relevant teeing areas forward again. She also hopes to create more chances on par-5 holes. These are tactical intentions, not confirmed course changes or predictions of scores.
Her broader point was about sustainability: working hard matters, but a young professional also needs to find enjoyment in the game rather than becoming consumed by results. Huang presented that balance as her own way of avoiding burnout, not as a guaranteed formula for every golfer.
