A winning return after more than a decade
Australian golfer Adam Bland won the 2026 Players Series South Australia on Sunday, October 25, at Willunga Golf Course. The 44-year-old left-hander finished at 17 under par (263 strokes), two shots ahead of Louis Dobbelaar, to claim his first professional tournament victory since the 2015 Japan PGA Championship.
His success is a striking story of persistence because Bland is no longer a full-time touring professional. He now spends much of his working life teaching golf on Kangaroo Island and makes selective competitive starts. His 2015 title in Japan was his last victory before this week — an 11-year gap.
How the final round unfolded
Bland began Sunday in a four-way tie for first with Dobbelaar, Canadian Thomas Giroux and Daniel Gale. He then produced a composed closing 67, three under par, with just one bogey. His four-round sequence was 67, 65, 64 and 67.
Dobbelaar finished second at 15 under. Giroux shared third with Ben Eccles, while Gale fell away after a final-round 76. The result also reversed a painful near miss for Bland: in the 2025 edition at Willunga he was runner-up to Matias Sanchez.
Why this particular event matters
The Players Series is unusual in professional golf. Male and female professionals, alongside elite amateurs, compete in one combined field for the same trophy and prize fund. The South Australian event offered A$200,000 in total prize money. Amateur Jazy Roberts was the highest-finishing woman in the field, at eight under par.
The victory carried an unmistakably personal dimension. Bland's wife, three children and friends were following him during the final day. According to Fox Sports Australia, he has no immediate plans to return to full-time touring: coaching remains central to his life, and he expects to play roughly ten events a year.
For a player with previous victories in Japan and Canada, Willunga provided a rare opportunity to win again at home, surrounded by family. The outcome is reported by Fox Sports Australia and Australian Golf Digest. It was a PGA Tour of Australasia event, not a PGA TOUR or DP World Tour event.
