Team USA erased a three-point deficit entering Sunday’s sessions to win the Presidents Cup, largely because of its putting. The event statistics showed that seven of the top nine putters represented the U.S. team.
The Americans made several crucial long putts on Sunday. Cameron Young holed a 32-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole to close out Ryo Hisatsune and give the U.S. the first point of the day. Patrick Cantlay drained a 57-footer from off the green to put his match against Adam Scott out of reach. Collin Morikawa answered Hideki Matsuyama’s 45-footer with one of the same length, then added a 31-footer on the 15th to seize momentum in a match he eventually won on the 18th.
Jacob Bridgeman sealed the result by holing a four-footer on the 18th green, giving the U.S. its 11th consecutive Presidents Cup victory.
All 12 members of the winning U.S. team used mallet-style putters. Five played models from TaylorMade’s Spider Tour family, which again was the PGA Tour’s winningest putter family in 2026. Chris Gotterup, who led the 24-player field in Strokes Gained: Putting, and Cantlay played Spider putters as free agents. They were the only equipment free agents on the U.S. team this season.
Four more players used mallets from Scotty Cameron’s Phantom family. Young and Justin Thomas both put new putters into play this week. Young moved from the 10.5 Xperimental Prototype he used at the Tour Championship to the Phantom 5.5. Thomas moved to the 10.5 Xperimental after using Young’s former 9.5R gamer for most of the season.
The Phantom 9.5R was still represented in the matches, as rookie Jackson Koivun used one to post a 2-0-1 record in his debut.
