Two golf tournaments ended in Taiwan on 14 October 2026, providing an unusual father-and-son storyline. At Songboling Golf Club in Nantou County, Hsu Yu-cheng (許育誠) claimed his first victory as a professional. On the same day, his father and longtime golfing mentor Hsu Meng-nan (許孟男) finished runner-up in a seniors event at Datun Golf Club in Tamsui. They were competing on different courses, in different tournaments, but the shared date highlights a local golf tradition spanning generations.
A first professional victory after four years
Hsu won the seventh leg of the ThreeBond TPGA Challenge Tour, the Huan Tai Challenge (環台挑戰賽), held on 13–14 October at Songboling. He opened with an even-par 72, leaving him three strokes behind the leaders. A closing seven-under-par 65 moved him to 137 (−7) over 36 holes, securing his first professional title and the NT$150,000 winner's prize.
The standout moment came at the fourth hole. From 114 yards, Hsu used a 52-degree wedge to hole his tee shot for an ace — his first hole-in-one in professional tournament competition. The course awarded him an additional NT$12,000 for the feat. That was a separate hole-in-one bonus, not part of the normal winner's cheque.
His final-round card included seven birdies, two bogeys and that par-three ace. Hsu needed just 31 strokes on the opening nine and 24 putts in the round. The contest with Lin Da-yu (林大銪) remained close: a bogey by Hsu at the 15th brought them level, but Hsu regained the advantage with a birdie at 16. Lin then three-putted the 18th for bogey, falling out of contention for a playoff. Lin's 139 (−5) earned second place, two shots back. Hsiao Ho-yu, Tseng Feng-tung and Lo Cheng-yuan shared third at 143.
Across Taiwan, his father was competing too
Meanwhile Hsu's father, Hsu Meng-nan, was playing in the Shieh Min-Nan Golf Foundation's 'Rooster Leads Chicks' Invitational at Datun Golf Club in Tamsui. The competition pairs a seniors professional event with a junior amateur component, supporting interaction between established players and the next generation. Hsu Meng-nan carded 69 and 73 for 142, taking second in the general senior category. Lien (連騼森) took the title with 136, completing a third consecutive win. These scores do not belong to the Challenge Tour event and should not be conflated with the result at Songboling.
The father-son connection extends beyond the coincidence in the calendar. Taiwan's Golf Digest describes Hsu Meng-nan as a professional player who helped guide his son's golfing education. Despite growing up around the sport, Hsu Yu-cheng did not take up structured training until about age 13. In recent years father and son have occasionally competed in the same professional fields.
Why it matters for the Taiwan tour
Hsu said his next goal is a victory on the main Taiwan PGA Tour, and he intends to try Japan Tour qualifying in early 2027. The distinction matters: this maiden success was on the TPGA Challenge Tour, a developmental circuit, rather than on the main tour. Yet a seven-under final round and a hard-fought finish demonstrate his ability to close out a tournament under pressure. Qualifying ambitions remain plans, not a guaranteed tour card.
