A first taste of competition in Budapest

The Jövő Reménységei Kupa, organised by the Hungarian Golf Federation (Magyar Golf Szövetség), took place at St. Lőrinc Golf Club in Budapest on 24 October 2026. The federation published its report and category results on 25 October. The purpose was to give children still learning the game a manageable introduction to organised tournament golf, rather than to reproduce the pressures of a conventional championship.

The event brought together 19 participants: 11 beginners and eight more advanced youngsters. Instead of full-length 18-hole rounds, the players contested individual stroke-play competitions on shortened par-3 holes. Beginners played three holes; the advanced divisions played six or nine. Every shot still mattered, but the distance and duration were tailored to the children's early competitive experience.

Winners in each age and experience group

In the beginner division, Rózsa György won the boys' under-10 gross category and Xing Yuxuan Linda the girls' under-10 category. The under-13 beginner winners were Kurucz Botond among boys and Teiter Liza among girls.

The advanced under-10 divisions were won by Jin Wei (boys) and Klekler Petra (girls), while Hadházy Marcell and Szalai Gréta Jázmin topped the advanced under-13 divisions. These are separate age and experience classifications, not one overall ranking. The federation's news report lists positions but does not provide complete stroke totals for every group, so no aggregate scores are inferred here.

Why Hungary's grassroots golf needs competitions like this

The significance lies in bridging practice sessions and the first official scorecard. Coaches and parents supported the children around the course, sometimes helping as caddies, according to the federation. That setting allowed young players to experience basic scoring, on-course etiquette and tournament routines without a full-length championship.

The federation hopes the confidence gained will help these children approach the 2027 Junior Tour with more experience. This should not be confused with confirmed selection or qualification: the October event was an introductory competition, and no automatic place in a future series has been announced.
