Golfing Sailors31 August 2009, 2:52 pm
Our guest author today is Kenny Read, skipper of the PUMA Ocean Racing boat the Il Mostro. We invited Kenny to join us for our Boston PUMA Open and he had a few things to sayOkay, I guess I should have known. The PUMA Open? Sounds innocent enough right. After all, it’s just golf. I have been sauntering 'round a few golf courses in my day and figure that a scramble style event is pretty painless and typically good fun. Boy am I naive. I've been around this company long enough to know that ...

The Not So Distant Future28 August 2009, 4:05 pm
Movies like “2001: A Space Odyssey”, “Starship Troopers” and “Back to the Future II” prove that predicting the future, though entertaining (yes, I liked Starship Troopers), is almost always dead wrong. That being said, I’m going to try my hand at it and see if I can predict some shifting trends in a game that is in desperate need of a facelift. Golf is played by 57 million people worldwide, 51 million of which will never break 100 and 91% of whom will never belong to country club. ...

Two months later Lucas Glover won the US Open at Bethpage thwarting Phil Mickelson’s attempt at a long awaited Major win. Tiger Woods Hangs Snap Hooks on Haney6 April 2012, 1:42 am
I can snap hook a golf ball. In fact it's my preferred miss. Hooks go faster than huge balloon balls, so they're manlier. Harder to find, but manlier. Tiger Woods snapped off a couple of beauts on the 1st two holes of his Masters Toonamint today. Nice par recoveries kept him at level par, but the hooks stayed in his bag to resurface throughout the round. The 18th was such a happening, but Woods managed to scrape out a rather nice bogey to finish at level par for the day. He's in a huge pac...

Caution - Snail Pairing at 2012 Masters4 April 2012, 2:01 am
Normally the Greenjackets have everything worked out in the coordination of their yearly golf-fest, the Masters. Thursday's opening round pairing though features Kevin Na, Ben Crane, and Fredrick Jacobson. This threesome tees off at 12:14 PM. Expect darkness at about 7:15 PM. Then send a search party because Na and Crane are as slow as it gets on Tour. Well, with the exception of Jason "All" Day. Why these geniuses at Augusta didn't just include him in the trio is beyond me. They could have gon...

Tiger Woods Dialed In For Another Green Jacket?26 March 2012, 2:00 am
Before two of his previous Masters victories Tiger Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. Today he set himself up to do it again with a five stroke win over Graeme McDowell that broke his 924 day winless drought. Tiger might count his Chevron triumph, but having fewer golfers than holes, we don't. That makes him the odds on favorite to capture his fifth green jacket.
What are his chances? Well, since you asked....
1. He loves the golf course.
2. He knows it like the back of ...

Some Contenders, Some Pretenders but Mickelson…he’s the Maestro!5 April 2012, 1:21 pm
This year, it will be softer so you can rest assured Phil is going straight after the pins. You only have to look at his record at Augusta since 1995. Thirteen top 10s out of 17 starts. Nine of those have been top-5s, including 3 wins. It is a phenomenal record and although the competition is stiff this week and Phil isn't getting any younger, he still has all the armoury to challenge this week. At odds of 11/1, he gets my vote....

Mahan a Master in the Making4 April 2012, 3:41 pm
This in my mind is a no brainer. Mahan has already won twice this year, one coming last week at the Shell Houston Open and the other being in the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship in which he had to overcome Rory Mcilroy in the final. Thanks to these victories, Mahan is currently at the top of the Fed-Ex Cup rankings. As for his Masters record, he finished tied tenth in 2009 and tied eighth in 2010. Following last week’s win his odds were cut from 35/1 to 30/1 which, in all honesty, is not...

Still Addicted2Golf but time to move on17 January 2011, 11:50 pm
My friends, I’ve made the very difficult decision to shut down Addicted2Golf at the end of this month. It is not a decision that was taken lightly. I’ve put in many hours of hard work into this site – growing traffic from a handful of visitors a week to eventually more than 4,000 per month. [...]...

Product Review: Odyssey White Ice Sabertooth Putter4 October 2010, 1:48 pm
Much of the recent focus on golf technology has been in the driver and iron categories. But, equipment manufacturers have been incorporating the same multi-material and perimeter weighted design elements into putters and golfers should take notice. The putter is the most used club in the bag and amateurs drop far more shots on the [...]...

Sun Mountain All Wet at the Ryder Cup1 October 2010, 4:53 pm
I can’t remember a worse PR nightmare than the one Sun Mountain is experiencing at the rain soaked Ryder Cup. The rain gear they supplied the Ryder Cup team didn’t keep the players dry. It was so bad that Corey Pavin went to the merchandise tent and bought the same suits that were being offered [...]...

Addicted2Golf to feature Golf Travel info you can use6 September 2010, 6:41 pm
I’ve decided to add a new feature to A2G – a section on travel. Many of us take annual trips with our friends and family, often to unfamiliar areas looking for a new experience. The daunting task is to find the right mix of lodging, restaurants and activities that will make a vacation unforgettable. Mix [...]...

Progress Update – July 30, 201131 July 2011, 4:10 am
Ah, yes, I’m on the shelf again. Things have gotten quiet around here lately because I haven’t been doing much of anything. When I arrived in Texas, I took upon the monumental task of rebuilding my swing with the help of a local pro. Things were slowly, but steadily turning around. I was spending a lot of time at the driving range. Probably too much, really, as I’ve hardly even set foot on a course this year (I started the process of moving here at the tail end of winter in Ne...

Book Review: Golf List Mania!10 July 2011, 7:27 pm
Golf List Mania! by Leonard Shapiro and Ed Sherman is exactly what it sounds like: a huge pile of golf-related lists. Who doesn’t love a good list on the topic of golf? I’ve done a number of them myself over the years. They’re fun to do, they’re a good way to dig into any facet of the game and its history, and they’re a great way to spark debate. Who are the top five players of all time? What are the ten best tournaments ever? Name the five greatest shots you’...

Lesson Notes14 June 2011, 4:14 am
Since I arrived in Texas, I found a local golf pro that I’ve been working with fairly regularly. I’ve been getting lessons nearly weekly since early May. I’ve been making some fairly significant swing changes and have been working extremely hard on that. I’ve seen momentary flashes of where I’m going and I like it, but it’s a lot to digest and a lot to change so it’s slow going. Because of that, I started taking notes at the conclusion of each lesson so ...

Book Review: The Caddie Who Won the Masters31 May 2011, 4:21 am
Please note that this review contains a few plot spoilers, which are labeled, should you prefer to avoid those sections. The Caddie Who Won the Masters, a novel by John Coyne, shares the story of Tim Alexander, an aging, inexperienced golfer who wins the USGA Mid-Amateur championship and an even bigger prize: the invitation to play in the Masters that is customarily extended to the champion of that and several other amateur events. About the Author As described on his website, John Coyne is the ...

There’s Nothing Like Pro Golf22 May 2011, 1:54 am
I know I say the same thing every time I attend an event, but I’m serious! This morning, I had the opportunity to attend the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. When I say I had the “opportunity”, I mean, I moved to Fort Worth and live three or four miles from the course, so how could I not go? No, my blogging juice carries no weight to get me in the gates, so I tossed my $45 into the hat, and drove on over. First of all, if you’re a fan of professional golf, thereR...
